Reprints of photographs taken by brothers Richard, “Dick”, Donahue, and Thomas, “Tom”, Donahue, are available. Many of these have never been published. Subjects include products of companies, buildings, groups of people, banquets, churches, teams, and vehicles. Downtown Evansville is fairly well covered. Print prices can be seen on the Gift Certificate page.

Donahue’s photographs before 1980, when electronic scanners became available, were taken with an 8x10 view camera if the use of a tripod was permitted, (as opposed to photographing from an airplane.)

In 1925, Keller-Crescent recruited their father, James J. Donahue, to work as a Monotype operator in their printing plant located at Riverside Drive and Locust Street in Evansville. Working in Indianapolis, James moved with his wife, Mary Veronica, sons James Jr., Richard, and daughter, Mary Catherine, to Evansville. Over the next twelve years, additional offspring were Margaret Rose, Willie, Tommy, Agnes and Pat.

At one time or another, every family member would avail some kind of help to the fledgling business; dad would build work benches and repair equipment, sisters made startup-loans, mom worked in production feeding exposed and processed black and white prints into a huge, gas-fired, print-dryer drum. Willie was an occasional employee and brother Pat stayed with the business as the Office/Sales Manager. Brother James Jr. became a customer as a color separation buyer in his capacity of prepress supervisor at Creative Press, Inc. This project is being done by James, “Jim”, Donahue III, a nephew and 20-year employee.
