Keep your photographs in a safe
place and find someone who can identify the people or
activity shown. A company history should be compiled.
What might not be of interest to you now, will be of
interest to someone twenty years from now.
Retirees are a great resource for
identification of photographs.
Keep your old ledger books,
invoices, payroll records, etc. Although much of this
might be confidential now, much or all of it will not
be someday. They make for great photos and data when
telling your story.
When scanning photographs or taking
new photographs, send them to a professional photo lab
to have prints made. In Evansville, Schmitt Photo is a
great source. This will let you see the quality of your
scan or photo, give you a backup and will be better
than what you’ll get from your office printer or
from a discount store. Since you are archiving, you
want them as good as possible. If you need help with
scanning, contact us.
Every organization should have at
least 2 people involved with this and backups should be
kept offsite.
Photographs can be lost, burned up,
ruined from water damage, improper storage or stolen.
Digitally archive them soon.
The Donahue Studios project has
received a tremendous amount of identification help
from people browsing the web.
Again, what might not seem to be
important to you today,
will be important to someone,
someday.
